No. I'm not on the edge of insanity. Well, maybe I am, but I'm referencing a different kind of edge right now. Yeah, baby, I am talking about crocheting on the edge of a pillowcase.
I love how this looks. I have Beata from Rose Hip to thank for the amazing inspiration. I haven't been this obsessed excited about creating something lovely for a long time. Thanks, Beata.
I've decided to host a little pillowcase-crochet-along called On The Edge... Can you play?
On The Edge... will work like this:
Week 1: Getting the Goods--This week we will be gathering supplies.
Week 2: Stitching up a Storm--We will sew a pillowcase with a flap that hides the end of your pillow.
Week 3: A Firm Foundation--This week we will prepare the pillowcase for edging.
Week 4: On the Edge--We will crochet the scallop pattern and post to Flickr (We'll see if I can actually get a group set up.)
Sounds like fun. Don't you think? Even if you don't crochet, you should give this a try. I will include links on how to do the crochet stitches and recommend resources for beginners. I didn't crochet much beyond a simple chain until a few weeks ago. Really. It's not that hard. You can do it!
Here's what you need to do if you would like to join me...
- Leave a comment telling me you want to play.
- Grab the On the Edge...button from my sidebar and post it on your blog if you have one. I hope the button works. I am trying to make friends with Photoshop Elements and HTML. They're prickly personalities, for sure. I just know I will love them once I get to know them, though.
- Watch for the Week 1 post next Monday, March 1st.
See? Easy. I hope you can play.
XOXO~ Cassie
I'm in...don't have a blog to put the button on though.
Last week I mentioned to thimbleanna that I was making some pillowcases and I wondered why she was so interested to see what I was up to...this just adds lots of icing on the cake. The one I made had wonderful rich acorn fabric, trim, and finished end so I'm going to do this one in brighter colors...we must all be gathered together by some love of beautiful old linens, embroidered or crocheted.
Can't wait to get started, Robin

When you said you were going to figure this out a couple of weeks ago... I thought wow that is so pretty and I so wish I could do that. I mean imagine how cute my pillowcases would be if they looked like that. THANK YOU for sharing with us how to do it. I am a little nervous because I am not a super crocheter but I am going to try.

I love the pillowcases, but don't know the first thing about crochet. I don't even have a crochet hook. I would love to learn, is it very difficult?

I tried to resist - really I did, but these yummy pillowcases are haunting me. So I'm off to dig out my crochet hooks. I'm in. My first SAL ever! Thanks for sharing.

I am so excited about this. I have been wanting to try crochet edging for awhile.
I am a crocheter, but an not a machine stitcher. I am really excited to give a pillowcase a try. I figure it shouldn't be too hard to mess up. :)

Gorgeous pillowcases! My three daughters and I are excited to play along! They're going to be so excited when they get home from school and see your first lesson is already up! We've invited another friend (by sharing a link to your site via e-mail), since we don't have a blog site ourselves.
