Sew Mama Sew December Giveaway Day

Get up offa that thing? Yes. You. Why?  Because it's time for a little happy dance.  Today is Sew Mama Sew December Giveaway Day. (Pausing for a little happy dance of my own here.  Go on. Try it. It's fun.) 

 

Up for grabs today from You Go Girl! is some Daisy Chain love.  I have a little stack of fabric and a Shopper tote made from this See and Sew Pattern. The shopper is just like a plastic shopping bag only it's fabric...love it!  Of course I can't make anything without some Full Moon Polkie so they are represented on the bag along with the Daisy Chain fabric. I am too stingy to share the polkies with you so I did not put any in the stack of fabric.  When these polkies are gone, I swear I will have to pack up my studio and focus my energies elsewhere.  Maybe I'll take up box hockey. What exactly is box hockey anyway?

To win this Shopper and the Daisy Chain fabric please write a Christmas acrostic worthy of publication in my 2009 Christmas letter.  I have not been visited by the Christmas letter muse this year. I need some good material. What? That's too much to ask. Ok. Ok. PS--This post script is for all my blog friends who commented on my last post.  I haven't been a very good blog friend lately.  I didn't get back to ANY of you. I so appreciated your comments and helpful suggestions on my last post.  As of right now, the fabric from the insulated cup debacle is still laying on the floor of my studio.  But I am beginning to see that it is a bundle of potential beyond an apron for the cat.  LOL! Thanks so much for all your kind words.

Wow.  Four hundred and thirty comments.  That's a whole lot!  I usually try to respond to all comments. I threw in the towel on this one.  

Now on to the task at hand...selecting the winner. The random number thingy selected lucky number...drum roll, please...191. After a lot of printing comments and counting (There must be an easier way to do this???), I determined that Alissa wrote comment number 191. So, Alissa, come on down. There is a whole lot of pretty up there.  I love the fact that these little guys don't bloom to impress people, the other critters they live with, or the other plants that are flowering beside them. They bloom because that's what they were created to do.  I want to bloom like that.

Lucky!

I'm telling you.  Two thousand nine is going to be a great year!  We're not even done with the first month, and I've already won a giveaway from the lovely, and wildly entertaining, Thimbleanna.  This is significant, people.  I've never won a drawing in my entire life.  I'm not even kidding! 

Look at my bootyloot. (I like to talk like a pirate.  I was going to call it booty, but upon a second read-through decided that it wasn't a good idea. If you're not a pirate-talker, it sounds scandalous!  LOL!)

Well, the first thing I did was get Mr. Cupcakes out of that plastic bag!  Apparently, he missed the day of school where they taught about never, ever, ever, ever putting a plastic bag on your head.   After I got him out, I whispered sweet nothings into his ears until they stood up straight and tall. 

I promised him that there would be no rabbit voodoo at this house, even though he is a pincushion.  He was relieved and happy.  I know you can't see his smile, but he is smiling on the inside.  Really, he is.  Now I am looking for the perfect place of honor to put him.  Paige is stealing my craft room  I am moving out  of my craft room, so I haven't even bothered to look there.  I know there will be a perfect place for him in my new space, where ever that might be.  It is an ongoing debate at my house.  Until then, he is watching everything I do in the kitchen.  He keeps telling me that I need to visit Anna's kitchen.  He says she's got mad kitchen skills.  What's he trying to tell me?

Is that the cutest Mary Engelbreit needle book, or what?  And the chocolates...I had to beat the girls off of them last night.  Mr. Cupcakes and I are going to eat them this afternoon.  Is that selfish?  Can't be.  I am sharing with Cupcakes, after all.

I know I've said it before, but I'm a lucky girl.

I never know where to throw my change so it ends up on the bottom of my purse. Snip, Snip, Snip...

I fought the bag and the bag won.  Or did it? 

The problem started when I tried to use a sew-in interfacing instead of a fusible.  Actually the problem started when Pellon Decorbond changed its formula.  It went from being a soft facing that was the perfect weight, to being a crinkly facing that wrinkled when scrunched.  So the search for new facing was on.  After alot of trial and error, I decided my new favorite facing was plain old flannel.  The down side to facing with flannel is that it has to be fused to the bag using Wonder-Under. Short story long, the Wonder-Under means an additional ironing step.  Booooo! I don't like ironing!  On this bag, I tried to take a short cut. The results put me in a snit.  What's a girl to do?

Well, I decided the responsible thing to do would be to repurpose the bag fabric into something else. Oh, who am I kidding? I was mad at the bag, and I cut it up!  There's some kind of therapy in that!  I cut purposefully with glee.  Soon that nasty bag was reduced to pieces of fabric that were little bundles of potential.  I took those pieces and turned them into this.

 I used the big pieces from the bag and some fabric from my stash to make this little top.

 

 

The little bag pieces were used to "snaz" up a pair of bitty jeans that I bought at Penney's for $4.99.  What a steal!

It has been a long time since I have used a pattern to create clothing.  Fourteen years, in fact.  I am proud to report that my skills have improved.  All that home-dec and bag sewing has paid off.  I am smitten.  I can't wait to create something else for someone small.

So as you can see, the bag didn't actually win.  I did.  And speaking of winners, it's time to announce the winner of my giddy giveaway.  The random number generator chose number 21.  If I counted correctly, Rachel left comment twenty-one.  Today is her birthday.  Can you believe it?  Congratulations and Happy Birthday, Rachel! 

Pincushion Party

Is two a party?  I guess it depends on who the two are.  I remember when Mr. Handsome and I first started dating.  Anytime he was around, it was a party for me.  Sweet like cake and bubbly like punch.  Ahhh, young love.  But I digress.  I have two pincushions that would like to be part of a party.  And what's a party without a gift?

These are the two pincushions I made last week when I was off-task.  I used Heather Bailey's pattern.  You can find it here.  I am happy to report that I seem to be doing a little better with my focus this week. All six pairs of jeans are hemmed.  I am currently working on the baby gifts.  One of the bags I am making for a gift is trying to get the best of me.  We'll see who wins this battle.  I hope that bags knows I am a woman armed with scissors.  I'm not afraid to use them. Snip, snip, snip little bag.  I just might cut you up.  Whew. Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.  I feel so much better.   (Disclaimer:  I am not a violent person, but I think I might be caught in a snit.  Gnashing of teeth.  Snatching of hair.  White knuckles gripping the scissors.  It's not pretty.  But I'm over it.  Really.)

We Really Must Do This Again!

A giveaway is a good time.  I read each one of your comments and clicked to your blog if you had one.  Fun, fun, fun!  The comments came from far and wide.  Ana lives in Spain. Cathi is from Ireland. Jenny wrote from Australia.  Karin, Angie, and Anna sent lots of friends to leave a comment.  In fact, Karin directed a gentleman to my sight.  I had my first ever comment from a guy.  You go, guy! 

I was going to do this drawing the old-fashioned way and pull a name from a hat.  I printed the comments and started to cut them apart...No, thank you.  I ended up using this random number generator instead. The random number generator chose (drum roll, please).......NUMBER 92. Christine from Auntie's Quaint Quilts left comment 92.  Anna from Thimbleanna sent her to my giveaway.  As soon as I get a mailing address, I will send the pincushion to Christine, and this little thank-you to Anna. Remember these?

Posie Pincushion Giveaway!

Whew!  I was hoping to get this post done this morning.  I've been overtaken by Monday madness!  My family usually spends summer weekends with extended family at my childhood home on the shores of a refreshing lake.  That means Monday is a recovery day---laundry, home-and-garden TLC, and grocery shopping.  When you add that to toting my girls to summer band, a ballet workshop, and a few friend stops here and there, you have the recipe for a Calgon moment.  Some of you are probably too young to remember the Calgon ads. I was a child when they were big. I'm sure some of you will remember, though.  "Calgon, take me away!!" 

Enough prattle!  I'm giddy for a giveaway.

 

I doodle-stitched some posies and turned them into a pincushion using Heather Bailey's pattern that I also used here.   The last pin cushion I selfishly kept for myself.  This one's for you. I hope you like it.
